Summer Research Opportunities
According to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), summer research programs across medical schools aim to help students gain early exposure to the research process, develop essential skills, and explore potential academic and clinical career paths. These programs often include mentored research experiences, professional development workshops, and opportunities to present research findings.
Summer research at Geisel is committed to fostering the development of future leaders in the biomedical sciences. The program provides a multidisciplinary, inclusive learning environment designed to support students from diverse backgrounds and research interests. Once accepted into the program, student will be matched with a faculty mentor based on your desired area of research.
Important Information About Funded Summer Research Programs at DH and Geisel
To ensure equitable access to funded research opportunities for all students, students may apply to more than one funded summer research program. However, if selected for multiple programs, students must accept only one funded program offer and decline the others. (In particular, TOPS is a full-time summer research program requiring approximately 40 hours of work per week for the duration of the program. Students participating in TOPS may not participate in another paid summer research program concurrently).
Students are responsible for reviewing the participation requirements and funding policies of each program before accepting an offer. Please click on the “Summer Research” tabs below on this website to explore specific summer research programs and additional opportunities available to Geisel medical students.
