Roy S. Herbst, director of the Dartmouth Cancer Center and a professor of microbiology and immunology and of medicine at Geisel School of Medicine, has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine. One of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine, NAM recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.
Acknowledging her leadership in advancing healthcare for older adults, Terry Fulmer, adjunct professor of medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine, and president emerita of the John A. Hartford Foundation, has received the 2026 Gustav O. Lienhard Award for Advancement of Health Care from the National Academy of Medicine.
For her work investigating meiotic cell cycle regulation and chromosome segregation in budding yeast and mouse oogenesis, Soni Lacefield, PhD, a professor of biochemistry and cell biology at Dartmouth’s Geisel of Medicine, has received the Genetics Society of America’s Ira Herskowitz Award.

Congratulations to Susan B. Roberts, PhD, senior associate dean of foundational research at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine, who has received the 2024 EV McCollum International Lectureship in Nutrition Award at the American Society for Nutrition’s annual meeting.
The Society of Surgical Oncology announced that Sandra L. Wong, MD, MS, FSSO, is its president-elect. Wong, a surgical oncologist, is the chair of the Department of Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and the Geisel School of Medicine.
The American Society for Microbiology has named George O’Toole, PhD, The Elmer R. Pfefferkorn, Ph.D. Professor of Microbiology & Immunology at Geisel, as editor-in-chief of The Journal of Bacteriology effective July 1, 2021.
