The Geisel School of Medicine has launched a $250 million fundraising campaign as part of Dartmouth’s institution-wide campaign. Interaction: The Campaign for Dartmouth Medicine will amplify the medical school’s academic vitality and global impact, elevating Geisel’s stature as a community of scholars and learners with an outsized influence in forging new solutions and leading improvements in healthcare.
A generous gift from Eric Eichler D’57 will support new undergraduate educational programming in healthcare delivery science—previously available only at the graduate and professional level at Dartmouth.
Barbara C. Jobst, MD, PhD, professor of neurology at the Geisel School of Medicine and section chief in the department of neurology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, has been named the Louis and Ruth Frank Professor in Neuroscience. An internationally recognized pioneer in the treatment of epilepsy and associated memory disorders, Jobst has led the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Epilepsy Center since 2008 and the Epilepsy and Cognition Lab at Geisel since 2013.
Sandra L. Wong, MD, MS, chair of surgery at the Geisel School of Medicine and Dartmouth-Hitchcock, has been named the William N. and Bessie Allyn Professor in Surgery.
The scholar is funded by an endowment established by world-renowned ophthalmologist and Dartmouth alumnus Francis A. L’Esperance, Jr., MD, (MED’54), which supports research in ophthalmology and diseases of the eye.
Charles Barlowe, PhD, chair and professor of biochemistry and cell biology at the Geisel School of Medicine, has been named the James C. Chilcott 1920 Professor.
Konstantin Dragnev, MD, a practicing oncologist at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center and a translational scientist, has been named the Irene Heinz Given Professor in Pharmacology.
Kathryn B. Kirkland, MD, a professor of medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine, section chief and director of the Palliative Medicine Program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, and a 1986 graduate of the medical school has been named the Dorothy and John J. Byrne, Jr., Distinguished Chair in Palliative Medicine.
Mark Creager, MD, has been named the Anna Gundlach Huber Professor in Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Creager, a Professor of Medicine and Surgery at Geisel since 2015, also directs the Heart and Vascular Center within the Dartmouth-Hitchcock health system.
Les Reid, MD (Med’66), is an engineer, a businessman, a physician, and, now, a fairy godfather of sorts to Geisel medical students.
