NH-INBRE Alumni

NH-INBRE Alumni Association

For over 15 years, the IdEA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) has been contributing to undergraduate education and research across the state of New Hampshire.  Branching off of the Institutional Development Award (IDeA) program, established by the National Institute of Health in 1993, NH-INBRE has grown monumentally. In addition to the cutting-edge research students are working on, the NH-INBRE program has created one of the first established alumni mentoring network groups for students to access for free.

Currently, there are over 1,000 alumni, all past graduates of the lead or partnered institutions within New Hampshire, who are currently involved with our program. Many alumni have been eager to give back to the organization, which was so crucial in the culmination of their undergraduate experience. As such, the Alumni Association was started, composed of alumni volunteers, led by the Alumni Advisory Board

All alumni participate voluntarily and act primarily as mentors for the current body of students participating in NH-INBRE-funded research throughout the 11 lead and partner institutions. The alumni have a variety of responsibilities which include but are not limited to mentoring students, networking at the annual meeting at the historic Mount Washington Resort, participating in career or academic speaker series, and even providing information to the students regarding internships or job openings with their respective companies/laboratories.

The Alumni Advisory Board serves as a critical extension of the NH-INBRE program. Members of the board collaborate to create and organize student mentorship and career development programs to aid in the advancement of undergraduate students, with the help of utilizing our vast and diverse network of alumni. The board meets regularly to assess and meet the needs of the growing NH-INBRE network; they bridge the gap for student workforce development and postgraduate advancement.  One of the fundamental goals of establishing this community is to provide career planning and professional development for undergraduate students across New Hampshire. With this goal in mind, the Alumni Advisory Board has created The NH-INBRE Career Mentoring Program. The advisory board is chaired by Haley Zanga.  As an alum of NH-INBRE, if you would like to become a mentor, please contact Haley via email at haley.zanga@gmail.com.

The NH-INBRE Career Mentoring Program has many facets. These programs were designed to aid students in focusing on their career planning, developing skills needed for applying to jobs beyond undergrad, as well as providing unique networking opportunities. This program uses NH-INBRE alumni as mentors to help students achieve their long-term goals. As such, they help with résumé preparation or CVs, interviewing skills, obtaining internships and networking, helping apply to graduate school programs, and much more. The goal is to have the Career Mentoring Program become part of the NH-INBRE culture, promoted alongside the professional research skills that NH-INBRE cultivates in students. The NH-INBRE network takes great pride in the guidance that it offers and provides to its students.

In addition to our Career Mentoring Programs, there are several other resources available to students, including but not limited to:
