This year’s Geisel MLK celebration will focus on bringing a social justice and equity lens to addiction, fostering awareness of harm reduction and health promotion, offering hope to those struggling with addiction and engaging with community efforts to envision paths toward healing.
$7M in Gifts Fuel Center for Global Health Equity
Philanthropic gifts from four families totaling $7 million will support health equity programs across Dartmouth College and the Geisel School of Medicine. The gifts will accelerate the growth of the new Center for Global Health Equity, bringing together thriving international and domestic health equity programs at Geisel and Dartmouth’s Dickey Center for International Understanding.
Geisel Students Receive 2018-19 NH/VT Schweitzer Fellowships
Nine first-year medical students from the Geisel School of Medicine are among 23 new Schweitzer Fellows from New Hampshire and Vermont who will spend a year addressing social factors that impact health.

Partnering with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Upper Valley Ambulance, second-year Geisel medical students Nick Valentini ’20 and Karissa LeClair ’20, created a novel solution to meeting the healthcare needs of rural patients.
Minnesota Indian Health Service Trip 2018 Presentation April 3
This year, 23 first-year Geisel med students and five Dartmouth Institute students embarked on a journey to Minnesota and Wisconsin for spring break. Along with advisor Shawn O’Leary, the group spent time in Minneapolis with the urban Indian Community and visited five different reservations across northern Minnesota and one nation in Wisconsin. The trip gave students a glimpse into Indian history, culture, and health.
Empowering Communities Through Photography
By putting cameras in the hands of people of all ages to share their point of view—a process called photovoice—Geisel researcher Anna M. Adachi-Mejia, PhD TDI ’02 seeks to understand how a rural community’s infrastructure contributes to health behaviors.
Team Up, Take Action: Partnering for Health Equity
Dartmouth-Hitchcock is partnering with the Vermont and New Hampshire Public Health Associations to present a thorough and thoughtful day-long conference to explore the many factors that either enable or interfere with addressing conditions leading to health inequity. The Team Up, Take Action Health Equity Conference/Schumann Lecture will be held on November 15, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, at the Hanover Inn, Hanover, NH.
