Giving Back, Paying Forward

Giving in support of student scholarships feels good. Dr. Norman Payson (’73) can attest to that. The Geisel alumnus and his wife, Melinda, recently made a $1 million gift that brings their total giving to scholarships at Geisel to $3.5 million.

Spreading sunshine and love in China

Mengyi Zha (’16) is already working to help China’s poor and homeless populations get the basic health services they need. “Growing up in Beijing, I was aware of the large number of poor and homeless people living in the streets but was taught to ignore them,” Zha recalls. “I felt it was my responsibility to speak for the voiceless and advocate for the ignored, but it wasn’t encouraged.”

Geisel Students Work To Make Gender Inequity Visible

Dr. Holly Atkinson’s experiences in human rights work over the past 25 years have given her reason to be both deeply troubled and incredibly hopeful. Last week, at a symposium organized by the Geisel chapter of Physicians for Human Rights, she discussed both ends of the spectrum, from the worries that keep her up at night to the people who have inspired her.
