The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth is pleased to announce the appointment of Kimberlee (“Kim”) Labonte as its new Executive Director of Development. A seasoned fundraising leader with more than two decades of experience across higher education, academic medicine, public health, and the arts, Labonte will guide Geisel’s philanthropic strategy and development programs in support of the school’s mission to improve lives through research, education, and clinical excellence.
Dartmouth Provost Santiago Schnell announced the appointment of Steve Leach, MD, Director of the Dartmouth Cancer Center and the Preston T. and Virginia R. Kelsey Distinguished Chair in Cancer, as interim dean of the medical school, effective Sept. 15, following the conclusion of Dean Duane Compton’s extended term.
Geisel School of Medicine Dean Duane Compton, PhD, has announced that cell biologist Jamie Moseley, PhD, has been named the chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Moseley’s five-year term will start on July 1.
Geisel School of Medicine Dean Duane A. Compton, PhD, has appointed Susan B. Roberts, PhD, as the medical school’s Senior Associate Dean of Foundational Research. Roberts is an internationally known nutrition and behavioral change scientist with more than 30 years of experience developing innovative research programs to advance health in the U.S. and abroad.
Sonia Nagy Chimienti, MD, has been named the new Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education for Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. She is a specialist in infectious disease who is currently vice provost for Student Life and Enrollment Management and an associate professor of medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
The Society of Surgical Oncology announced that Sandra L. Wong, MD, MS, FSSO, is its president-elect. Wong, a surgical oncologist, is the chair of the Department of Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and the Geisel School of Medicine.
Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine has appointed John Dick, III, MED ’03, interim senior associate dean of medical education, and Diana Wu, MD, interim associate dean of diversity and inclusion.
Alison Volpe Holmes, MD, MPH, has been named the school’s new associate dean for student affairs. Holmes is an associate professor of pediatrics, medical education, and of The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice.
Nicole J. Borges, PhD, a professor of neurobiology and anatomical sciences at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has been named Chair of the Department of Medical Education at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. Borges, a health psychologist with over 20 years of experience in medical education, is recognized nationally for her scholarly approaches to student and faculty advancement.
Sylvia Guerra ’21 is one of five U.S. medical students to receive the prestigious 2019 Herbert W. Nickens Medical Student Scholarship award from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
