PEMM Student Arielle Baker Receives Prestigious National Fellowship
Arielle Baker, Guarini ‘19, a PhD candidate in the neuroscience track of the Program in Experimental and Molecular Medicine (PEMM), has received a Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship. She will be working with the Committee on Women at the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) to advocate for the participation and retention of women in these disciplines.
Geisel Students Chad Lewis and Alex Lindqwister Receive National Recognition
Two Geisel medical students were recognized during the Association of American Medical Colleges annual meeting for their demonstrated leadership and commitment to diversity. Chad Lewis ’20 has received a prestigious Herbert W. Nickens Scholarship award, and Alex Lindqwister ’21, was elected national chair of the AAMC Organization of Student Representatives.
Professor Ellen Meara Appointed to Endowed Professorship
Ellen Meara, PhD, a professor of The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, and an adjunct professor of economics at Dartmouth College, has been named to the Peggy Y. Thomson Professorship in the Evaluative Clinical Sciences.

David A. Leib Named Chair of the Dept. of Microbiology & Immunology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth
David A. Leib, PhD, has been named the Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. Since joining Dartmouth in 2009, Leib has built a successful research program focusing on discovery and elucidation of new vaccines and therapeutics for neonatal herpesvirus infections. In addition to his research efforts, Leib also teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in virology at Dartmouth.
UNREST: Movie and Expert Panel Q&A
The Geisel School of Medicine and the Massachusetts ME/CFS & FM Association are sponsoring a viewing and expert panel discussion for UNREST, an award-winning documentary about Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), a disabling and complex illness. The event will be held Oct. 16 in Auditorium E at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Doors open at 3:30 for light refreshments and the program will begin at 4:00 PM.

David A. Acosta, MD, FAAFP, chief diversity and inclusion officer at the Association of American Medical Colleges, will present at a special Medicine and Surgery combined grand rounds on Friday, Sept. 7 at 8:00 AM.
Geisel Appoints New Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion
Geisel School of Medicine Dean Duane Compton has named Stephanie L. White, MD, MSHS, FAAP, Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion. White succeeds Dean of Faculty Affairs Leslie Henderson, PhD, who has held that position since 2014.
