Geisel Welcomes Students in the Health Sciences Programs to Campus

Alicia Battle, PhD, MCHES, assistant dean of public health programs, extended a warm welcome to Master of Public Health and Master of Science students to a week of learning more about their respective programs and getting to know each other.

She reminded the new students that public health is a team effort and encouraged them to be mindful of the differences they each represent. To lean into diversity and seek opportunities to learn from each other.

Elliott Fisher, MD, MPH, professor of health policy and clinical practice, medicine and community and family health, led a learning session on making a commitment to public health to make the world a better place. He asked the new students to question assumptions, to think about what they stand for, the choices they make, and to be unafraid of asking for help. He also emphasized the collaboration and teamwork necessary for them to thrive together.

Throughout the week, students will be introduced to available learning support and wellbeing resources, professional values and student life, and an upcoming public health expo to meet with public health professionals to explore opportunities for involvement and potential career paths.

In addition to learning details about their respective programs and learning communities, students enjoyed opportunities to socialize, including a team-building scavenger hunt across Dartmouth’s campus, yoga, and a new student BBQ with Geisel’s first-year MD students at Dartmouth Skiway.
