	Three Geisel School of Medicine Professors Named Fellows by American Association for the Advancement of Science Three Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth scholars have been selected as fellows by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world's largest general scientific society and the publisher of the journal Science. The medical school's new fellows—professors Christopher Amos, Mark A. Israel and Ronald K. Taylor—are among six named from Dartmouth College and 702 scholars selected overall this year.

	Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine Receives $3.2 Million Grant from DHHS To Improve Mental Health and Address Trauma in Children The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families has awarded a $3.2 million grant to the Department of Psychiatry at Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine. The five-year grant will fund work at the Dartmouth Trauma Interventions Research Center aimed at improving the well being of children struggling with traumatic experiences, depression, and disruptive disorders. Dartmouth received one of only eight grants awarded nationally.

	Merck CMO and Academic Leader to Speak at Geisel School of Medicine on How Industry and Academia Can Work Together Michael Rosenblatt, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Merck & Co., will speak at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth on Thursday, Sept. 6, at noon in Borwell 658W, which is located on the school's Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center campus. Dr. Rosenblatt, former dean of Tufts University School of Medicine, will bring his unique experience in academia, global health and industry to his presentation "Academia and Industry: How Can We Work Together?"

	Dartmouth Medical Students Awarded AMA Foundation's Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarships Two students at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth were selected for Physicians of Tomorrow Awards by the American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation. Alexandra Coria and Laura Ostapenko are among just 18 rising fourth-year medical students across the nation who received the awards.

	Dr. Richard Rothstein Appointed Chair of Medicine at Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth has named Richard I. Rothstein, MD as the Joseph M. Huber Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Medicine. Dr. Rothstein, who has served as the interim chair of the Department of Medicine for the past year, will immediately assume his new role.

	Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine Helping Lead Global Effort to Train Rwandan Medical Professionals, Build Sustainable Health System The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth is one of seven U.S. medical schools partnering with the Ministry of Health in Rwanda on the new Rwanda Human Resources for Health (HRH) Program. This ambitious seven-year program—announced by former U.S. President Bill Clinton in Rwanda in late July—will support the Government of Rwanda in building a high quality and sustainable health system.

	Clinical trial led by a Geisel professor reveals a more effective treatment for HIV-infected infants The standard treatment for HIV-infected children in the developing world may need to be revised, according to a study led by Paul Palumbo, MD, a professor of medicine and of pediatrics at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

	Dartmouth Names Medical School in Honor of Audrey and Theodor Geisel Dartmouth College announced today the naming of its medical school, founded in 1797, in honor of Audrey and Theodor Geisel. Their generosity to Dartmouth during their lifetimes and through their estate plan renders the Geisel family the most significant philanthropist to Dartmouth in its history. Theodor "Ted" Geisel, known worldwide as the author and illustrator, "Dr. Seuss," was a Dartmouth graduate of the Class of 1925.

	Cystic Fibrosis Foundation awards research grant to DMS' Madan Under a grant of almost $300,000 from a non-profit affiliate of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF), Dartmouth Medical School (DMS) neonatologist Juliette C. Madan, MD, MS, will spend the next three years tracking the development of microbes in the lungs and intestines of infants with cystic fibrosis, in search of new approaches to treatment of patients with the genetic disease that causes life-threatening infection of the lungs and premature death.

	Senators Shaheen, Ayotte Support Partnership Between Manchester VA Medical Center and Dartmouth Medical School In a letter to Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) urged the secretary to approve an application to establish a partnership between the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Manchester and Dartmouth Medical School. Partnering VAMC's patient care clinics with Dartmouth's resources as a world-class medical education and research center would enhance patient care for veterans in New Hampshire, which is the only state without a full-service veterans or military hospital.

	Serving an 'Overlooked' Population Like many of the migrant workers who support Vermont's dairy industry, 41-year-old Rosalia Garcia-Moreno spends most of her time working: feeding calves, milking heifers and caring for her family on Paul and Mary Knox's 800-cow farm on Route 5 in Bradford. She's the only woman among a group of 10 Mexican workers at Knoxland Farm, and she juggles her full-time job with caring for her three children.
