As we begin a new academic year, it is important to acknowledge and celebrate the recent promotions of our faculty and research scientists. We hope that you, like all of us on departmental promotions committees, the Dean’s Office, and the APT Committee, are also amazed at the breadth and depth of accomplishments in teaching, clinical care, research, scholarship, and engagement of our academic community.

Geisel Committee on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and DEI Dashboard
I would like to thank the many people who volunteered or provided nominations for membership on the new Geisel Committee on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. The response that we received was exceptional from staff, students and faculty, and there were far more nominations/volunteers than we could accommodate on the initial committee composition.
Good News – Reversal of Fall 2020 Federal Operational Guidance for International Students
I’m excited to share the good news that the government has decided to rescind their recently announced policy that would have barred international students taking online-only courses from residing in the United States. The speed at which the government rescinded this unjust and arbitrary policy in the face of legal action highlights just how indefensible it was. I’m pleased that Dartmouth supported this fight to protect our students and learning environment.

Geisel’s Juneteenth Town Hall Community Discussion Guide, Next Steps, and WC4BL
We should all consider the following: What would it mean for Geisel to be a national leader in racial fairness, equity, and justice in all of our missions of science and education? How might we get there? We cannot speed to quick fixes aimed to placate that are not long-term solutions, but we can commit, from this point forward, to working towards this vision as a priority for our school.
Rapid Response Team
Dear members of the Geisel community, As some of you may remember, in response to sadly similar situations that arose in 2017, including the events in Charlottesville and the Trump administration’s travel ban, Geisel set up a Rapid Response Team and set aside specific times for the community to come […]
Message from DICE Office
Why must black death be broadcast and consumed to be believed, and what is it beyond spectacle if it cannot be used to obtain justice?” – @Blackamazon on Twitter, June 16, 2017 We do not have the words to describe the sadness, anger, and anguish that many of us are feeling […]
Note to the Geisel Community
Colleagues, If you are anything like me, then you are experiencing a wide range of emotion in response to recent events—helplessness, frustration, anger, sadness, fear, isolation, compassion—to name a few. Recent episodes of violence on African Americans, including the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor at the […]
