Thadeus “Ted” Trus, MD, Named Interim Chair, Department of Surgery

We are pleased to announce that Thadeus “Ted” Trus, MD, has been named the Interim Chair of the Department of Surgery. He will assume interim leadership of the department until a permanent replacement for Sandra Wong is named.

Dr. Trus has been a member of the Department of Surgery and Geisel faculty since 2000. During that time, he has served in a number of leadership roles including Director of Bariatric Surgery, Division Chief, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Interim Section Chief, General Surgery. He was also the founder and Fellowship Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery until 2022. He is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

Dr. Trus received his medical degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario in 1988. He completed his residency in general surgery at McMaster University, followed by research and clinical fellowships in minimally invasive surgery at Emory University in Atlanta. His clinical interests include bariatric/weight loss surgery, gastroesophageal reflux disease, anti-reflux surgery, endoluminal and transluminal endoscopic surgery.

Ted is well known and well respected in the peri-operative environment in our region. His collaborative and transparent leadership will be invaluable during this time of departmental transition.

We hope you will join us in thanking Ted for stepping into this new role while we recruit a permanent Chair. We very much look forward to working with him.
