Optical Method Maps Brain Tumor Borders

Chemical & Engineering News - References comments made by David Roberts, professor of surgery and neurology, on a new optical coherence tomography (OCT) device that surgeons could potentially use to help remove tumors from the brain. The OCT device would test the tissues at the borders between the tumor and healthy brain tissue as the surgeons operate, helping them remove only cancerous cells and not risk the removal of normal tissue. Roberts stats that the study is a strong first step, but more data is needed to show that OCT is a viable surgical tool. Read more...
