Heinz Valtin, MD, emeritus professor of physiology, died at his home in Alexandria, VA, on October 11. Valtin joined the Physiology Department of Dartmouth Medical School (now Geisel School of Medicine) in 1957, eventually holding two honorary chairs, including the Andrew C. Vail Memorial Professor of Physiology, and was chair of the department from 1977–1988.

Elmer R. Pfefferkorn, PhD, emeritus professor of microbiology and immunology, and chair of the department from 1980-1992, died on March 25, 2019. He was 87 years old.
Services will held for Roger P. Smith, PhD, at the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College on Saturday, June 23, at 11:00 AM. Smith, the Irene Heinz Given Professor of Pharmacology Emeritus at the Geisel School of Medicine, died January 22, 2018.
Ben Barres, MD, PhD MED ’79, an internationally renowned neuroscientist and outspoken advocate for equality and inclusion in science, died December 27, 2017 in Palo Alto, CA.

A memorial service for Dr. Arnie Katz will be held on Sunday, July 10 at 1:00 PM at the Class of 1978 Life Sciences Center on the Dartmouth campus. Dr. Katz, a beloved teacher and mentor at Geisel, passed away in January.
We are so saddened to inform you that Dennis McCullough, MD died unexpectedly, Friday June 3rd in Bar Harbor, Maine while attending a conference.
Dennis was a beloved and deeply engaged member of both the Department of Community and Family Medicine and the larger Upper Valley community for over thirty years as a practicing family physician and geriatrician.
A world-renown researcher in the field of endocrinology, and considered by many to be the father of glucocorticoid receptors, which he discovered in the 1960s, Allan U. Munck, PhD, an active emeritus professor of physiology and neurobiology at Geisel, died unexpectedly on April 29.
Charisma—we can’t always define it, but we know it when we see it. And by all accounts Ron Taylor was charismatic. A professor of microbiology and immunology at Geisel School of Medicine, Taylor died on March 26 at age 62 of a heart attack. His good-natured personality and intellectual assets, beloved by faculty, students, and staff alike, were well suited to academe.
Peter “Pano” T. Rodis, 55, an instructor at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, died on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at his home in Sharon.
