Three Geisel Students Receive Prestigious Public Health Service Award

PEMM Student Arielle Baker Receives Prestigious National Fellowship
Arielle Baker, Guarini ‘19, a PhD candidate in the neuroscience track of the Program in Experimental and Molecular Medicine (PEMM), has received a Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship. She will be working with the Committee on Women at the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) to advocate for the participation and retention of women in these disciplines.

Ambrose Cheung Receives National Scholar-Innovator Award
Dartmouth researcher Ambrose Cheung, MD, has received a 2017 Harrington Scholar-Innovator Award, one of only a few given annually to top physician-scientists in the U.S. The award will support Cheung’s promising research to develop a vaccine or drug to combat MRSA—virulent staph bacteria causing infections that are increasingly resistant to antibiotics.
NIH Funds Dartmouth Study of Cellular Disease Processes
The five-year, $12.45 million NIH COBRE grant supports an interdisciplinary project for junior faculty who are engaged in early-stage research of basic cellular processes and how disease affects the interaction of cells and molecules.
PTSD Center Executive Director Receives International Organization’s Highest Honor
Paula Schnurr, PhD, a Research Professor of Psychiatry at Geisel and Executive Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Center for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, was presented with the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies Lifetime Achievement Award at the organization’s annual meeting in New Orleans in November.
