Congratulations to Ta Yuan (TY) Chang, PhD, professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, who was recently elected as a new member of Academia Sinica in Taiwan. This honor is considered the highest for a scientist with Republic of China citizenship.
Academia Sinica held its biennial Convocation of Academicians from July 1 to July 4. Newly elected Academicians and Honorary Academicians were announced by President James C. Liao and Conveners for the Convocation of Academicians in the press conference after the closing of the Convocation on July 4. This year, a total of 28 new Academicians and two Honorary Academicians were elected.
Founded in 1928, Academia Sinica, which means "Chinese Academy," is a leading academic institution in Taipei, Taiwan. The Convocation is made up of academicians of Academia Sinica. Academicians are elected biannually and are grouped into four divisions: Mathematics and Physical Sciences (currently, there are 73 members), Engineering Sciences (66 members), Life Sciences (99 members), and Humanities and Social Sciences (61 members).
The Chang Laboratory has long been engaged in basic and translational research—using biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, nanotechnology, medicinal chemistry, and mouse models as investigative tools—to better understand cholesterol homeostasis, a fundamental process that plays an important role in health and in diseases.
Chang was also elected a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in 2021. The Chang Lab at Dartmouth is led by TY and Cathy Chang, PhD.
