Description: Valdez, Alaska is located on Prince William Sound. The Valdez Medical Clinic is a private practice group with four family medicine providers. Students will work with full spectrum family physicians. Clinical experiences include working inpatient, outpatient, OB, C-sections and ER. There are opportunities for procedures including colonoscopy, stress test, casting, and GYN procedures such are D&Cs. There is a 10 bed hospital, nursing home and outpatient clinic. Valdez is 300 miles from the next major medical center, and trauma and surgical patients are medivaced out.

Valdez has a population of around 4000. It is located in South Central Alaska on the northeast tip of Prince William Sound. On the road system, Valdez is 305 road miles east of Anchorage, and 364 road miles south of Fairbanks. The City encompasses 222.0 square miles of land and 55.1 square miles of water.

Climate: The climate is relatively mild, which is attributed to the marine currents in and weather generated by the Pacific Ocean. Its distinguishing characteristics are the incomparable rugged beauty of its natural mountain ringed setting and its extremely high average annual snowfall of 360 inches (30 feet) the most of any community at sea level in North America.

Area Information: Valdez is the home of the World Extreme Ski Championship and King of the Hill Snowboard championship and world renowned backcountry skiing. It also boasts world class fishing, hunting, white water and sea kayaking, and sailing. Located on Prince William Sound, Valdez is on the road system but rural. In addition, there is a community college, a swimming pool, a theater, and groomed cross country trails.
