Ernstoff Named to Norris Cotton Cancer Center and Geisel School of Medicine O. Ross McIntyre Chair

Dr. Marc Ernstoff

Lebanon, N.H.—Dr. Marc Ernstoff has been appointed to the O. Ross McIntyre Endowed Professorship at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center (NCCC) and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

"Since Ross McIntyre was an important mentor to him, it is most appropriate that Dr. Ernstoff is the inaugural recipient of this chair," NCCC Director Mark Israel said in announcing the appointment. "He has played a pivotal role in the continuing development of NCCC. His high standards for himself and others, and his commitment to better cancer therapies through research, have moved the Cancer Center to a more robust and forward thinking position in clinical research."

Ernstoff, professor of medicine and associate director for Clinical Research at NCCC, studies the immunobiology of cancer and conducts clinical trials, primarily with patients who have melanoma and renal cell cancer. He received a BA from Emory University, and a MD from New York University School of Medicine.

This endowed professorship is named for esteemed longtime Norris Cotton Cancer Center director O. Ross McIntyre, internationally known for his contributions to hematology and oncology. Under his leadership (from 1974 to 1992) NCCC became the twenty-second comprehensive cancer center in the nation. The effort to establish the chair was led by McIntyre's friend and Dartmouth College and Medical School classmate, John Moran, MD, and it was funded with the generous gifts of more than 60 donors, most notably Steven Gillis, PhD '78, and his wife, Anne.
