- FAQ: What is a Continuity Conversation? If a Geisel student receiving care through Geisel Counseling approaches 20 visits* the student and their counselor will have a conversation to discuss options for continuing care. This conversation is called a Continuity Conversation. The student and counselor will consider factors including; diagnosis, the recommended treatment modality and frequency, the student’s future schedule, insurance coverage, and student privacy. Options for continued services include 1) continuing to see the same counselor through Counseling Associates** utilizing the student’s insurance, 2) a facilitated referral to an alternative, appropriate counseling resource, with assistance from the Geisel Case Manager, or 3) continuing with Geisel Counseling. The goal of this step in the process is to ensure each student’s unique treatment needs are being periodically reviewed and to help manage the balance of access and continuity of care for as many Geisel students as possible.
- * For medical students, the visit count resets to zero at the end of the pre-clinical phase, with an additional 20 visits applied to the clinical phases (this totals 40 visits divided into two discrete timeframes throughout the curriculum). For MPH/MS students, the 20-visit count applies for the academic year of enrollment. Visits counted include appointments completed, cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice, and appointment no-shows.
- **Counseling Associates is the community group practice that provides services for students through the Geisel Counseling program.
