AAMC Organization of Student Representatives (OSR)

What is the AAMC-OSR?

As medical students at Geisel, we are all members of the AAMC. The AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) represents the 151 American and 17 Canadian accredited-MD medical schools. The AAMC is responsible for ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service), the Match, and VSLO (Visiting Student Learning Opportunities – for away rotations). It also has several councils comprised of deans, faculty, students, and residents on issues surrounding student affairs, medical education, inclusion and diversity, student debt, admissions, legislative affairs, and more.

The OSR (Organization of Student Representatives) is made up of representatives from each medical school and shares student ideas between medical schools and represents the medical student body’s interests to the academic community.

OSR at Geisel

Geisel SOM is represented by 4-5 active student representatives (e.g., generally one per class), including one primary student rep at the AAMC-OSR. Representatives work closely with the Deans and the Student Government to discuss the interests of students at Geisel. OSR reps can connect face-to-face with other reps from across the country and within our region at the AAMC Annual Meeting held in the Fall and at Spring Regional Meeting. Our reps tend to be actively involved in the organization, pursuing liaison, regional, and national leadership positions when possible.

Through the OSR, Geisel's reps are able to inform local conversations with the perspective gained from interaction with colleagues across the country. Similarly, our OSR reps serve as a conduit to bring important Geisel-led initiatives and innovations to the national stage. The Geisel reps also endeavor to ensure that resources created by the AAMC and OSR for medical students are at your fingertips. Applications occur during first-year for each class through a competitive application and interview process and are selected by the current senior Geisel rep(s) as well as the Deans.

Your local OSR rep is committed to serving you. Please get in touch with me to learn more about how I might be able to help with your goals to improve and enrich Geisel.
