Health Careers Camp: An Up Close and Personal View

Hanover, NH--Dartmouth hosted the third annual health careers camp to introduce New Hampshire high schoolers to the world of health care. The residential camp on the Dartmouth campus July 30-August 3 offered students an up close and personal view of health care people and professions.

Dr. Tim Gardner
The Dartmouth Health Careers Camp

Campers explored an array of possibilities in health including nursing, laboratory medicine, radiology or physical therapy, along with such aspects of health care as what happens in a hospital or primary care office, what is public health, why does research matter? Hands on activities allowed participants to experience hospital settings, investigate a disease outbreak, work with simulated patients and do mock job interviews.

The camp aims to give students the opportunity to investigate health care careers as well as some skills and resources to plan for their futures. Camp sponsors are: the New Hampshire Area Health Education Center Program, Dartmouth Medical School and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
