Dartmouth College is located in Hanover NH, alongside the Connecticut River—which serves as the border between Vermont and New Hampshire. Its 269 acre (1.1 km) campus is centered on a five-acre (two-hectare) "Green", a former field of pine trees cleared by the College in 1771. The campus is 2 hours northwest of Boston, three hours south of Montreal, and 5 hours north of New York City. Hanover is accessible by Interstates 89 and 91 and is closely neighbored by the city of Lebanon and the district of West Lebanon, NH. Only a few minutes' drive from Hanover are the villages of White River Junction and Wilder, VT and the town of Norwich, VT.
