Sandeep Vellanki, PhD

About Me

Sandeep completed his undergraduate studies in India before moving to San Antonio (TX) in 2014 to pursue a master’s degree at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Soon after completion, Sandeep started his Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology program at the same institute. His research in Dr. Soo Chan Lee’s lab focused on elucidating mechanisms underlying drug resistance and host-pathogen interactions in mucormycosis (PubMed Bibliography). During his PhD, Sandeep attended the Current Approaches to Molecular Mycology course at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole where he met Dr. Robert Cramer. In Dr. Cramer’s lab, as a post-doctoral fellow Sandeep will continue to study molds using genetic tools and murine models of mycoses to define how Aspergillus fumigatus infection progresses in vivo. When not having fun with fungi, Sandeep enjoys cricket and racket sports - badminton and tennis.
