Biography

Dr. Gillian Sowden is a board-certified psychiatrist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Her clinical expertise includes adult psychopharmacology and psychodynamic psychotherapy, with a focus on the treatment of mood, anxiety, trauma-related, personality, and psychotic disorders.

Dr. Sowden graduated summa cum laude from Williams College with a BA in Biology and Biochemistry, and earned her medical degree magna cum laude from Harvard Medical School. She completed her residency training in Adult Psychiatry at Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard Medical School affiliate.

Since joining the Dartmouth Health faculty in 2015, Dr. Sowden has served as an outpatient psychiatrist at Hanover Psychiatry and as Program Director of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Psychiatry Residency Program. In this role, she oversees the education, supervision, and professional development of psychiatry residents.
