Description: A full range of general surgery disorders including the following: surgical oncology (breast, sarcoma, melanoma, endocrine, gastric, hepatobiliary-pancreatic). Emphasis is placed upon oncologic inpatients. Students should develop an understanding of the human response to tumor and its effects on inflammation, nutrition and wound healing. Outpatient oncologic care is a growing arena, so students are required to spend a 1/2 day per week with Drs. Rosenkranz or Barth in the Multi-Specialty Breast Clinic either Wednesday morning or Thursday afternoon. You will experience and learn about the multidisciplinary care of the oncology patient by attending tumor board discussions and witnessing our collaborations with medical oncology, radiation oncology and palliative care.
