Big Tobacco successfully wrangled over 1 million new underage tobacco users with e-cigarettes in 2018

The results are in from the 2018 National Youth Tobacco Survey. For years we've seen a decrease in youth tobacco usage, but 27.1% of high school students reported current use of at least one tobacco product - the highest percentage since 2004. The number of reported underage users of any tobacco product rose by nearly 1.3 million, from 3.6 million in 2017 to 4.9 million in 2018. This change was undoubtedly driven by the rising popularity of e-cigarettes. Read the CDC's statement here and a press release by Tobacco Free Kids here.
