The price of free trade: Has Nafta contributed to Mexico’s rising obesity rates?

Since 1980, obesity rates have tripled in Mexico. Some experts argue that the North American Free Trade Agreement contributed to the growing problem. By "opening the floodgates" to American fast food restaurants and convenience stores, as well as processed foods, NAFTA could have contributed to this public health issue. However some proponents of Nafta argue the opposite - that the agreement has not only benefitted Mexico's economy, but also reduced malnutrition by making food more accessible. Read more here
