Maple House Learning Collaboratives Clinical Mentors

John Houde, MD

I am a recently retired Orthopedic Surgeon from Alice Peck Day Hospital in Lebanon, NH which has been a part of Dartmouth Health since 2017. I am a 1992 graduate of what was then Dartmouth now Geisel Medical School. I have lived and practiced in the Upper Valley for 24 years. I have been a member of the Geisel Alumni Council for 20 years and am a past president. I have been a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Healthcare Systems Committee in which we were tasked to educate our members about shifting payment models from fee for service to a value based care model.

Some of my personal interests include spending time with my wife and daughters and our extended families, mountain and gravel biking, motorcycling, skiing, spoiling our dogs, and attempting to understand quantum physics and how the universe began. My daughter asked after seeing my latest reading material, “How’s that working for you?” which is a very fair question. Not surprisingly so far, without much headway.

Some of my personal interests are being outside with my family and friends particularly hiking, cross country skiing and paddle boarding. I also especially like swimming in the crystal clear lakes of the North East Kingdom of Vermont. I try to find time for reading, gardening and puzzles, but I haven't been succeeding with that!
