John Houde, MD

Department of Orthopedic Surgery 

I am a recently retired Orthopedic Surgeon from Alice Peck Day Hospital in Lebanon, NH which has been a part of Dartmouth Health since 2017. I am a 1992 graduate of what was then Dartmouth now Geisel Medical School. I have lived and practiced in the Upper Valley for 24 years. I have been a member of the Geisel Alumni Council for 20 years and am a past president. I have been a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Healthcare Systems Committee in which we were tasked to educate our members about shifting payment models from fee for service to a value based care model. 

Some of my personal interests include spending time with my wife and daughters and our extended families, mountain and gravel biking, motorcycling, skiing, spoiling our dogs, and attempting to understand quantum physics and how the universe began. My daughter asked after seeing my latest reading material, “How’s that working for you?” which is a very fair question. Not surprisingly so far, without much headway. 

Top Travel Destinations:
Vietnam and Cambodia. They are very high on my list although I would gladly return to Italy in a heartbeat!! 

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
To make the Golden Rule universally contagious so that we would all treat others the way we would want to be treated. 

If you could go to the Olympics for any sport, what would it be?
I would go to the Olympics to watch would be track and field. I will always be amazed at how the athletes can move so quickly through space with such power yet fluidity. The human body is an amazing thing!
