Dr. Caitlin Kowalski is a molecular microbiologist and fungal biologist who joined the Department of Dermatology in 2025 to lead a research program focused on the role of fungi in skin health and disease. She earned her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Dartmouth College and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Oregon through the prestigious Helen Hay Whitney Foundation. Her work explores how skin-resident fungi interact with the host and other microbes, with the goal of uncovering novel pathways that protect against skin disease.
Dr. Kowalski has published extensively in high-impact journals and is a named inventor on multiple patents related to fungal biofilm structure and microbial therapeutics. She brings a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to dermatologic research and is committed to mentoring the next generation of physician-scientists and microbiology scholars. We are excited to welcome her back to Dartmouth, where her scientific innovation and deep curiosity will strengthen our department’s academic and research mission.
