At Dartmouth’s Department of Dermatology, we’re all about combining top-tier patient care with cutting-edge research and education. Located at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, we have a team of 15 board-certified dermatologists tackling everything from common skin issues to rare and complex conditions. We offer both general dermatology care and specialized clinics that connect different medical fields to provide comprehensive treatment.
As part of the Geisel School of Medicine, our department plays a key role in the medical school experience. Medical students have the chance to rotate through our clinics, engage in hands-on dermatology practice, and participate in groundbreaking research that spans both clinical and laboratory work. We are committed to providing an immersive learning environment where students can explore dermatology early in their medical careers.
Cutting-Edge Research and Clinical Trials
We actively train medical students and residents, offering them firsthand experience in dermatology through a blend of clinical care and cutting-edge research. We’re proud to give our patients access to the latest therapies through over 15 ongoing clinical trials, many featuring new, not-yet-FDA-approved medications. For students and researchers, this means the opportunity to work with pioneering treatments that are shaping the future of dermatology.
Our basic science research team offers opportunities for lab-based learning and experimentation, allowing students and researchers at all levels to get involved in innovative studies that bridge the gap between science and clinical care.
Making an Impact Beyond the Clinic
Our faculty don’t just stop at patient care—they lecture at conferences around the world, sharing their expertise on a wide range of dermatology topics. With 20 to 30 peer-reviewed publications each year and frequent poster presentations at national meetings, we’re actively contributing to the advancement of dermatologic science. Medical students and residents are right there with us, co-authoring papers and presenting their own research alongside experienced faculty.
Expanding Reach Across the Region
In addition to our main campus, we have affiliate clinics across the state, so patients have access to both local dermatology care and the expertise of our specialists when needed. Whether it’s complex skin cancer treatments or cutting-edge psoriasis therapies, our network ensures that world-class dermatology is within reach.
Looking Ahead
We’re excited about the future of dermatology at Dartmouth. As we continue to grow our clinical, academic, and research programs, we’re committed to expanding opportunities for learning and innovation. Whether you’re a student, researcher, or patient, our department is constantly moving forward—ready to make a real impact in dermatologic care and science.
