Medical Student Learning Environment and Mistreatment
The Association of American Medical Colleges defines mistreatment as behavior that shows disrespect for the dignity of others and unreasonably interferes with the learning process. The vast majority of Geisel community members engage in conduct that is supportive of a positive and inclusive learning environment, and Geisel encourages reports of such conduct so that the positive contributions of students, staff, faculty, residents, nurses and others to the Geisel educational experience may be recognized. Geisel Medical Student Professionalism Reporting
The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth takes pride in promoting professionalism and is committed to training future physicians who uphold the highest standards of the medical profession. To this end, Geisel has made professionalism one of its core competencies for graduation and defined its standards for professionalism and professional conduct that apply to faculty, students, and staff in its Professionalism Policy and the Essential Standards for Matriculation, Promotion and Graduation. These Essential Standards encompass the expectations for academic as well as behavioral conduct for our medical students. A member of the community (student, staff, faculty) who has concerns about student behavioral or academic conduct is obligated to bring forward those concerns, aligned with the responsibilities of the medical profession. Professionalism Note of Concern
Please use the Professionalism Note of Concern to report alleged medical student academic or behavioral conduct that is in violation of Geisel’s professional standards and Honor Code policies, as defined at the link above.
Recognition for Exemplary Professionalism
Please use the Geisel School Exemplary Professionalism Form to recognize a student for practicing exceptional professionalism.
Safety and Security
Report any information on a crime or other matter that may be of interest to the Dartmouth College Department of Safety and Security. Contact them at (603) 646-4000 or by email at Safety.and.Security@Dartmouth.EDU. You can also use the Anonymous Reporting Form.
Sexual Respect
The College supports and encourages prompt reporting of sexual assault, gender-based harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. A report can be made by anyone who knows about the incident. Student Outreach & Support
Report your concerns about a Geisel student's behavior or health to Student Affairs by filling out the Geisel Student Outreach and Support form. Alternatively, please contact the SNAP representative for the class of student.
Office of the Ombuds
Tracy Brant is the Dartmouth College Ombudsperson. The ombudsperson is independent of the College and is a resource that is available to all faculty, staff and graduate students who might have a concern, yet are not sure what they might want to do about it. The ombuds can be reached at ombuds@dartmouth.edu or 603-646-8132. She is available to meet in-person on campus or via zoom.
