Description
The Northern New England CO-OP Practice and Community Based Research Network (NNE CO-OP PCBRN) is a multi-state primary care research network housed within the Department of Community & Family Medicine at Dartmouth Health. Founded in 1972 as the Dartmouth CO-OP Project, the CO-OP is considered the oldest practice-based research network (PBRN) in the United States.
Today, the NNE CO-OP PCBRN is a voluntary, cooperative network of primary care clinicians, healthcare professionals, researchers, patients, families, and community partners across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The network brings together clinical, academic, and community partners to identify and address questions that matter to primary care practices and the rural communities they serve.
The CO-OP supports collaborative research and quality improvement by connecting partners, developing and conducting practice- and community-based research, supporting professional development and peer learning, and translating research findings into clinical practice and communities. Its work emphasizes research that is relevant and feasible in real-world primary care settings and that improves patient outcomes and the health and well-being of rural communities.
Goals
The goals of the NNE CO-OP PCBRN are to:
- Advance primary care, improve patient outcomes, and contribute to the health and well-being of rural Northern New England communities
- Convene and connect primary care clinicians, healthcare professionals, researchers, patients, and community partners across Northern New England
- Develop, conduct, and support collaborative primary care research and quality improvement that address priorities identified by practices and communities
- Provide opportunities for peer learning, professional development, mentorship, and collaboration across the network
- Strengthen the capacity of clinicians and practices to participate in and lead research in real-world primary care settings
- Translate and disseminate research findings back to clinicians, patients, practices, and communities to support improvements in care
