Tim Elder is a Research Associate at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago, where he focused on the organization and application of knowledge in medical and scientific contexts. His dissertation examined the dynamics of decision-making in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Dr. Elder's research interests include the integration of data and values in patient-clinician decision-making, especially in end-of-life care. He is passionate about open science and using plain text software for reproducible research. Additionally, his academic pursuits encompass moral philosophy, philosophy of science, and metaethics, with a particular interest in value and moral agency. He also has a keen interest in social network analysis, text analysis, and qualitative methods, which inform much of his work.
