Practice Innovation

TDI accelerates the pace of healthcare practice innovation in order to improve patient outcomes and experiences. Working in partnership with Dartmouth Health and other healthcare systems, TDI is developing and testing new models of healthcare delivery. Current initiatives include:

Dartmouth Rural Health Symposium
In partnership with Dartmouth Health, TDI and the Geisel School of Medicine are hosting the second annual symposium on rural health research, policy, and community partnerships. The symposium will be held May 12 and 13, 2026, at the Hanover Inn. We encourage clinicians, students, researchers, and policymakers to join us to discuss rural health challenges and solutions. TDI and the other symposium co-hosts published a report on the 2025 proceedings.

Promise Partnership
Led by TDI and Dartmouth Health, the Promise Partnership is designed to foster a Learning Health System based on the principles of co-production. Co-production centers the partnership among clinicians, patients, and their care partners in improving health outcomes.

Dartmouth LHS E-STaR Center
The Dartmouth Learning Health System (LHS) Embedded Scientist Training and Research Center (E-STaR) is a partnership between Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Health designed to train the next generation of learning health system scientists in patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR), comparative effectiveness research (CER), and learning health system competencies to address the disparities faced by the rural communities we serve.

Northern New England System Transformation for Primary Care
This emerging initiative is a joint venture between Dartmouth Health’s Department of Community and Family Medicine and TDI that seeks solutions to the profound challenge of providing high-quality and equitable primary health care in a rural setting by establishing an innovative and timely regional collaborative. To that end, the Susan and Richard Levy Health Care Delivery Incubator at TDI will continue our commitment to fostering innovation in healthcare delivery while sharpening our focus on primary care. The next phase of our work will prioritize the integration of medical and social services to address rural disparities, which aligns with accelerating policy interest, particularly at the state level, in primary care investment and innovation.
