Sam Shields is the System Vice President of Strategy & Regional Operations for Dartmouth Health. In his current role, he is responsible for strategic planning, system integration, partnerships and telehealth for the system. He is a member of the Value Institute leadership team, which includes quality, safety, patient experience and operational excellence for the system. He is an adjunct professor in the Tuck School of Business and a lecturer in the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College.
Prior to coming to Dartmouth Health, Sam held various leadership positions within the Specialty Chemical and Aerospace industries including VP of Operations, Global Supply Chain Manager, and Operations Manager. Sam is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality and a certified Six Sigma Black Belt through the American Society for Quality (ASQ). He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, an MBA from Texas A&M University, and an MHCDS (Master of Healthcare Delivery Science) from Dartmouth College. Sam is a member of the Board of Directors for New Hampshire PBS, Valley Regional Hospital, and New London Hospital. He holds a U.S. patent from his work in the development of nanotechnology for use in inkjet printing.
