About Dr. Boutis:
Dr. Boutis is a medical physicist with a passion for developing and improving magnetic resonance methodologies for enhancing patient outcomes in cancer therapy. One current research interest aims at understanding the degradation of extracellular matrix proteins following radiotherapy and the relation to pelvic floor dysfunction. In prior studies, his research has exploited his eclectic expertise in magnetic resonance to probe structure and function of elastin and collagen alterations following pregnancy and parturition. Dr. Boutis was a tenured professor of physics at the City University of New York, where he helped develop numerous methods and approaches for teaching physics (e.g. SCALE-UP) for nearly 20 years, and he integrates these approaches in teaching medical physics within our department. His research has been supported by an NSF CAREER grant and several NIH grants.
