AAMC establishes new fee structure for 2025 ERAS® residency application season
The AAMC has established a new fee structure for the 2025 Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) residency season. “This important update builds on our commitment to supporting learners throughout their journey from premed to residency and beyond,” said AAMC President and CEO David J. Skorton, MD, in a message to member medical schools, teaching hospitals, learners, and other members of the academic medicine community.

Annual AAMC medical school faculty salary report published
The latest AAMC Faculty Salary Report, used by many in the medical education community as a critical planning resource, is now available. This annual report provides detailed compensation information based on a 2023 survey of more than 131,000 full-time medical school faculty across 100 departments/specialties in basic and clinical sciences. The report also provides decision-makers with the most current and accurate salary data to support strategic planning while also helping individuals make informed decisions about their careers.

New ‘Beyond the White Coat’ episode explores impact of burnout on health care workforce
In the latest “Ask an Expert” mini episode of the “Beyond the White Coat” podcast, Michael Dill, AAMC director of workforce studies, answers questions about physician burnout, its effect on patient care, and the potential impact on future physicians in creating a more sustainable health care workforce. He shares insights into the process of assessing and analyzing current and future physician shortages, shedding light on contributing factors, such as burnout, and their implications for the health care field.

January nomination deadline for several 2024 AAMC awards
The AAMC annually recognizes and celebrates members of the academic medicine community who make significant advances in medical education, patient care, research, community engagement, and diversity in health care. Nominations for the AAMC Award for Excellence in Medical Education, the Award for Distinguished Research in the Biomedical Sciences, the Louis W. Sullivan, MD, Award, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation David E. Rogers Award are due Jan. 26, 2024.

AAMC IDEAS webinar to explore learner advocacy
The AAMC Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-racism (IDEAS) Learning Series will host a webinar on Jan. 31 at noon ET, “Developing the Next Generation of Physicians as Policy Advocates to Advance Health Equity.” Panelists will discuss why it is important for health professionals to be involved in shaping policy and provide examples of advocacy. They will also present the AAMC’s new toolkit designed to assist health professions learners in Washington, D.C., to leverage their role to drive positive social change as they advocate with and for patients and communities. While this toolkit was designed for learners in the District of Columbia, the principles could be applied in other regions.

Reminder: Register for AAMC webinar on improving maternal mental health outcomes
An AAMC virtual learning series, Improving Maternal Mental Health Outcomes: Varied Approaches to Closing the Gap of Care, highlights initiatives of academic medical centers and nonprofit organizations addressing the maternal mental health crisis. The final webinar of this series, “Screening and Treating Maternal Mental Health Conditions: Understanding and Utilizing the New Clinical Practice Guidelines from ACOG,” will be held on Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. ET. Speakers will discuss how they have interpreted and implemented the new maternal mental health screening and treatment guidelines from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) in their own practice and how other providers can utilize them to help their patients.
