Women faculty play a significant role in advancing the mission and goals of their institutions, and academic medicine, yet they continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions within the physician and scientific workforce. If you are an associate professor with a minimum of two years of experience in your current faculty appointment, plan to apply to join us for the Mid-Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar. There, you’ll expand your network, employ strategies for career and leadership development, and brainstorm ways to advance women in academic medicine and science!

What to Expect?

The curriculum is highly focused on gaining leadership knowledge and skills that will enable you to better prepare for advancement and promotion. Over three days, you’ll take part in engaging plenaries and panels, interactive small group breakouts, and will have ample opportunity to network with peers at a similar stage of their career and facing similar challenges. Specific topics that will be covered during the seminar include:

  • Persuasive communication
  • Negotiation
  • Enhancing your visibility
  • Strategic career transitions and planning
  • Funding the academic mission
  • Sponsorship, and more

Who Should Apply?

Women physicians and scientists with an appointment at an AAMC member school of medicine, with a minimum of two years of experience (on/before Dec. 2021) as an Associate Professor, and a demonstrated leadership ability, either in formal administrative or other leadership roles. Applicants must actively be seeking leadership opportunities to advance to the next stage of their career, including full professorship or other advanced leadership positions, as the curriculum focuses on the skills necessary for career advancement within academic medicine and science.

Due to high demand and limited capacity, we are unable to accept registrants outside of the program’s target audience.

The application period will close on Monday, August 28, at 11:59 PM ET. Applications will then be reviewed, and applicants will be notified of their decision status by October 3, 2023. We encourage applicants to apply as soon as possible to be considered.

AAMC Health & Safety Protocol for All In-Person Meetings and Events

The AAMC continues to support vaccination for all as a way to reduce the severity of infection and continues to believe high-quality, well-fitting masks are effective in reducing infection. While we will continue to encourage attendees to be vaccinated and wear masks in all venues, there are likely to be gatherings associated with this seminar with people who may not have been vaccinated and we recognize that mask wearing is now optional. Moreover, there have been reported instances of transmission of the COVID-19 virus even among vaccinated people who are not wearing masks (for example, while eating and drinking). For this reason, attendees should consider and determine for themselves whether they are comfortable with the risks associated with different events (e.g., indoor vs. outdoor, masked vs. unmasked, AAMC-controlled vs. public space).
