Designed by teaching hospital and health system CMOs, the AAMC CMO Leadership Academy has been developed to equip you with the vital skills you need to meet the demands of your role while creating lasting connections with your peers.

Delivered over 15 months, the program’s curriculum is taught using a blended approach of peer learning, paired mentors, independent project work, and face-to-face and virtual meetings.

Who Should Apply?
The CMO Leadership Academy is designed for CMOs who are in the first four years of the role, and those preparing to assume the role in the next one to three years. Applicants must meet all the following criteria to be considered:

  • Be from an AAMC member institution, affiliate or teaching hospital
  • Obtain support from the CEO of your teaching hospital, Clinical Leader of your health system (system CMO, CCO etc.) or Dean of your medical school to ensure program fit
  • Identify a care redesign project to implement while participating in the program
  • Commit to attending all in-person and virtual meetings

What’s Included in the Application Process
In addition to the application questions, which should be completed in one sitting, a complete application package requires:

  • A valid credit card (to be charged only upon acceptance into the program)
  • A current curriculum vitae
  • A one-page letter of support from your teaching hospital CEO, Clinical Leader of your health system (system CMO, CCO etc.), or medical school Dean
  • A one-page description of your proposed care redesign project
