By Mike Lauer
We are pleased to announce that the NIH Grants Policy Statement was recently updated, replacing the December 2021 version as standard terms and conditions of award. These internal controls include behavioral codes of conduct to assure safe and healthful working conditions for their employees and foster work environments conducive to high-quality research.

Tips Before You Submit

Revisit Funding Opportunity Announcements Within 30 Days of the Due Date
Many NIH funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) have multiple due dates each year for up to three years. A lot can change over three years, so revisit your FOA within 30 days of your due date (pay extra attention to the Related Notices section) and you can ensure you are aware of the latest requirements before finalizing and submitting your application.

You Ask, We Answer

Does the DMS Policy Apply To Training Activities, Including Training Programs And Fellowship Programs?
No. The Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy does not apply to awards for Training Programs (e.g., Ts, D43) and Fellowship Programs (Fs); however, Research Career Programs (Ks) are subject to the DMS Policy.

Should Multiple DMS Plans Be Submitted With Each Application for Funding, Including Large, Multicomponent Awards?
No. The DMS Policy expects only one DMS Plan to be submitted with each application and does not expect separate Plans to be developed for individual projects under that application. In multicomponent applications, the DMS Plan must be in included in the Overall component.
