Nominations are open for the 2023 AAMC Awards

The call for nominations is now open for the 2023 AAMC Awards. We encourage you to nominate deserving colleagues and institutions whose work is significantly advancing academic medicine in the areas of medical education, research, clinical care, community engagement, and advancing the academic healthcare workforce to reflect the patients and communities served.

Each year the AAMC recognizes and celebrates members of the academic medicine community through its Award for Excellence in Medical Education; the Award for Distinguished Research in the Biomedical Sciences, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation David E. Rogers Award. Other distinguished awards include the Herbert W. Nickens Award; the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award; the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Awards, and the Spencer Foreman Award for Outstanding Community Engagement. The deadlines for these awards are in January, March and April 2023.

Louis W. Sullivan, MD, Award
The AAMC is proud to introduce the Louis W. Sullivan, MD, Award, which recognizes an individual who demonstrates, through their leadership, a commitment to advancing the health care workforce to reflect the patients and communities served. The 2023 awardee will receive the Sullivan Award medallion and a prize of $10,000. The awardee will also present the Sullivan Lecture at Learn Serve Lead 2023: The AAMC Annual Meeting in Seattle. This distinguished award honors the visionary leadership and outstanding service of The Honorable Louis W. Sullivan, MD, former secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and founder of the Sullivan Alliance to Transform the Health Professions. Registration is open for the 2022 Sullivan Lecture, which will feature John Bluford, founder of the Bluford Healthcare Leadership Institute. The online event will be held Oct. 11 at 12 p.m. (ET).

Webinar on Preparing a Successful Nomination
On Oct. 6 from 2-3 p.m. (ET), hear from AAMC constituents and staff leaders who will explain the nomination process, share specific recommendations for preparing both individual nominations and the Spencer Foreman Community Engagement Award institutional nomination. The webinar, “Lessons Learned: Tips for Preparing a Successful AAMC Presidential Awards Nomination,” is free to attend. Look out for registration details in late September.

The AAMC continually strives to attract a diverse pool of nominees for its awards. Diversity as a core value embodies inclusiveness, mutual respect, and multiple perspectives. It also serves as a catalyst for change resulting in health equity.

We encourage you to share this call with a broad array of leaders from across your institution to identify individuals who have made significant contributions within the scope of each award. For a full list and deadlines for all AAMC awards, visit: aamc.org/awards.
