Medical Education Committee

Overview

The Medical Education Committee (MEC) ensures that the medical school curriculum develops and offers a curriculum to train future physicians who are highly knowledgeable; clinically skilled; professional and caring; excellent communicators; committed to lifelong learning and continuous assessment and improvement in all that they do; and skilled at practicing within a complex healthcare environment.

MEC responsibilities include:

  • determining what is taught, learned, and assessed in all the major competency areas
  • determining what students must achieve to qualify for graduation
  • defining and revising the goals, objectives, structure and content of the undergraduate medical curriculum

The Medical Education Committee (MEC) meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Membership

The voting members of the MEC consists of 15 faculty elected by the Geisel Faculty Council, and 25 students elected by the student body. The roles, responsibilities and membership of the committee are outlined in the Medical Education Committee Charge.
