Professional Interests: Dr. Rees is a physician-epidemiologist who graduated from Oxford University Medical School and completed a three-year general practice residency in the United Kingdom, followed by an MPH and PhD in Epidemiology at the University of California, Berkeley.
Her work in disease surveillance began during the six years she spent with the CDC's California Emerging Infections Program, and continued with the New Hampshire Birth Conditions Program and as the Director of the New Hampshire State Cancer Registry from 2004-2025. She is now transitioning to a new role overseeing the Cancer Registry of Greater California (CRGC) at the Public Health Institute, while maintaining a role at Dartmouth. CRGC is a SEER registry that documents more than110,000 new cancers annually among the residents of 48 California counties. A research unit within the registry is available for partnerships based on population-based surveillance, patient contact studies, and the procurement of tumor tissue with informed consent.
Dr. Rees' research interests also include cancer epidemiology/prevention; multiple malignancies; sources of bias in randomized controlled trials including unblinding and related beliefs, cancer survivorship and environmental causes of cancer. From 2020-2024, Dr Rees was the Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement for the Dartmouth Cancer Center.
