Professional Interests: Dr. Rees graduated from Oxford University Medical School and completed a three-year general practice residency in the United Kingdom, followed by an MPH and PhD in Epidemiology at the University of California, Berkeley. Her work in disease surveillance began during the six years she spent with the CDC's California Emerging Infections Program, and continued with the New Hampshire Birth Conditions Program and the New Hampshire State Cancer Registry; she has been the Director of the latter since 2004. Dr. Rees' research interests include cancer epidemiology/prevention; multiple malignancies; sources of bias in randomized controlled trials including unblinding and related beliefs, and population-based assessment of covid-related issues including symptom and vaccine uptake. Since 2020, Dr Rees has been the Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement for the Dartmouth Cancer Center. Her team analyzes and addresses disparities in cancer risk factors and cancer burden within the catchment population of New Hampshire and Vermont, and works with community partners to do so. Dr. Rees also co-directs the medical students' year 1 core course in Biostatistics and Epidemiology.
