Lab Technician Job Opportunity

Position Summary: A brief description of the overall primary duties

The Rigby laboratory is seeking highly motivated Research Assistant to support projects investigating development and effects of autoimmunity. They will work as a team-member to perform a variety of immunologic assays and in vivo experiments, conduct data collection/analysis, and aid in the maintenance of the lab and the mouse colony. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in mouse work and techniques outlined below.

Research/Experiments

Works as a member of a collaborative group to accomplish projects efficiently
Independently sets up laboratory experiments, utilizing a range of established methods, procedures, and techniques (e.g. cell culture, protein purification, flow cytometry, ELISA, immunoblot, gene expression, immunofluorescence, microscopy etc.)
Maintains laboratory mouse colony, including genotyping, and performs in vivo experiments on mice, such as mouse injections, bleeding, specimen collection and processing. Keeps good records of treatments and results of individual mice.
Identifies, troubleshoots, and corrects or recommends solutions to problems associated with experimental design, procedures, equipment, and facilities.
As necessary, develops and/or implements new or modified research methods, procedures, and techniques to meet the unique requirements of assigned research problems.
Adheres to laboratory standard operating procedures, including careful documentation
Data Collection/Preparation
Collects, analyzes, and interprets data.
Performs literature searches to develop information of relevance to the research.
Prepares appropriate and understandable representations of data, using Graphpad Prism
Presents at laboratory meetings.
Contributes to the preparation of scientific manuscripts by drafting portions of the text, preparing graphs, tables, and charts, etc.

Laboratory

Adheres to laboratory safety requirements including general and chemical/hazardous waste safety disposal methods.
Instructs others in laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques and provides technical guidance and direction as required.
Accomplishes day-to-day care and housekeeping of laboratory.
Monitors laboratory equipment and instrument performance; obtains maintenance and repair as necessary.
Maintains computerized records associated with laboratory activities
