Alexys Gayne is a native of Watertown, NY who attended the University of Rochester to begin her journey in higher education. While there, she double majored in Neuroscience and Psychology, volunteered with the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) as an EMT on campus, conducted research in neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation, worked in the Emergency Department as a Research Associate and coached and played club softball. This emphasized the overlap of clinical experiences and biomedical research, paving the way for her to pursue a career at the intersection of clinical care and translational research.

In 2023, Alexys joined the MD/PhD Program at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. She is currently in her third year of the program as a doctoral student in the lab or Dr. Kelli Pointer, working to understand radiation resistance in pediatric brain tumors and target this resistance to maximize the effectiveness of radiotherapy. Outside of the lab, Alexys is actively involved in student Government for Geisel (the medical school) and Guarini (the graduate school), the Rural Health Scholars group, and the Medical Education Scholars and Medical Education Committee. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, running, skiing, swimming, kayaking, baking, and spending time with family and friends.
