Guidelines for Iodinated Contrast administration & Renal Function

  • Patient with a GFR of less than 30 should not have contrast
  • Patient with a GFR between 30-45 - consult with radiologist before scan
  • Patient with a GFR over 45 can have contrast

The GFR should be within 45 days of the CT scan, however if the patient has a GFR of less than 45, labs should be done the same day as the CT scan & reviewed prior to deciding on contrast administration.
