The Department of Biomedical Data Science (BMDS) is pleased to offer trainee travel awards*.
Purpose:
BMDS Travel Awards are designed to provide our trainees an opportunity to present research, engage with other researchers, learn new methods, etc.
Eligibility:
- The applicant must be:
- A senior PhD student (post-qualifying exam) or a post-doctoral fellow in a BMDS faculty member's research group
- Attending either a national or international level conference or course
- Presenting their own work or be an accepted course participant
Award:
The award will cover up to $1,200 to be used for registration, lodging, airfare, ground transportation, meals, or a combination thereof. Any expenses exceeding this amount must be covered by the PI of the graduate student or post-doctoral fellow or by other sources.

- Nomination letter from research advisor/mentor (less than one page)

- Official abstract of the material to be presented
- Budget Justification
- Invitation letter or email from conference organizer confirming your attendance
Applicants are encouraged to apply at least 3 months in advance of the travel/event date via the online application.
Selection Process:
After the application is received, the chair of BMDS will evaluate the application, with committee input as needed. Recipients and their PIs will be notified via e-mail once a decision is reached.
Award Administration:
If funded, awardees must follow Dartmouth business travel policies and procedures. Applicants will work with BMDS staff to arrange for financial coverage of their business travel accordingly. All business travel expenses are to be covered by the trainee, and BMDS Travel Award funds will be used to reimburse the trainee after they return from their scientific meeting, at which time any other funding sources must be acknowledged. Please note that this will be a recurring annual award.
Citation:
The Department of Biomedical Data Science at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth acknowledges support in books, articles, abstracts, and presentations that have benefited directly through Geisel support or indirectly through the use of Geisel resources such as departmental cores.

*Only one award may be received within a 12-month period. Attendance at an annual conference that is effectively one year later than the prior year's conference date is acceptable. Eligible persons who previously received BMDS Travel Award support may submit proposals to participate in a future conference that is 12 months later than their past dates of conference attendance. Limited funding is available.
