The Department of Biomedical Data Science (BMDS) and the Center for Precision Health and Artificial Intelligence (CPHAI) are pleased to welcome Indrani Bhattacharya, PhD, to our faculty as a tenure-track Assistant Professor as of September 15, 2024.
Dr. Bhattacharya completed her bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Jadavpur University, India, and her M.S. and Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI, New York). Thereafter, she joined the Department of Radiology (Division of Integrative Biomedical Imaging Informatics) at Stanford University School of Medicine as a postdoctoral scholar and continued on as an academic research staff.
Dr. Bhattacharya’s research interests are in developing translational imaging-based Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted systems for healthcare applications. She is specifically interested in investigating how to seamlessly integrate and learn from complementary multimodal imaging and non-imaging data for developing these systems. At Dartmouth, Dr. Bhattacharya’s research will focus on (a) AI-assisted precision medicine where her lab will work on developing AI systems to assist clinicians in early disease detection, characterization and treatment planning, and (b) AI-assisted behavioral health where her lab will investigate how to develop multimodal human behavior estimation algorithms to assess behavioral health disorders and improve doctor-patient interactions.

During her doctoral and postdoctoral research career, Dr. Bhattacharya received multiple awards, including RPI’s Founder’s Award of Excellence, selection as one of the Rising Stars in EECS by U.C. Berkeley in 2020, several poster and perfect pitch awards, as well as multiple NIH, NSF, and DoE travel grants and awards.
The Center for Technology and Behavioral Health (CTBH) and Department of Biomedical Data Science (BMDS) are pleased to welcome Madelyn (Maddy) Frumkin, PhD to our faculty this fall! Maddy will additionally hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at Dartmouth.
Maddy received her PhD in Clinical Science from Washington University in St. Louis and completed a clinical fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Her research has been funded by organizations including the National Institute of Mental Health, American Psychological Foundation, American Psychological Association, and Academy of Psychological Clinical Science. Maddy’s lab at Dartmouth will focus on 1) leveraging intensive longitudinal data to understand predictors of persistent pain, mental health problems, and/or substance use after injury or surgery, and 2) developing personalized, digital interventions to improve mental and physical health outcomes.
