Accreditation at Geisel

Welcome to the Geisel School of Medicine Accreditation Page

Geisel School of Medicine has long strived to be the leading medical school that sets the standard for educating physicians, scientists, and teachers who will act in concert to improve health locally and globally. A critical component of meeting this goal is meeting the national accreditation standards set forth by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for our MD program and the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) for our MPH program.

The LCME has granted Geisel’s MD educational program full reaccreditation for the maximum period of eight years, extending to AY28-29. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire educational community. See more about MD accreditation by LCME.

Similarly, the MPH programs were awarded re-accreditation in 2024 for the maximum seven-year term, with the next site visit to occur in 2031. See more about MPH accreditation by CEPH.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this success, especially those who served on committees, assisted with preparations, and participated in survey visit sessions. Receiving reaccreditation for a full term highlights the commitment to excellence of our faculty, students, and staff.

Geisel continues to prioritize continuous quality improvement (CQI), with one goal being to address the areas identified by these accrediting agencies as needing further enhancement. Geisel’s robust CQI processes give annual opportunities for reviewing internal and external data compared against national benchmarks along with progress updates related to recently implemented program enhancements and upcoming initiatives. This robust framework and institutional commitment to CQI ensures that Geisel will continue to consistently evolve to meet the new needs of students in both medical and public health education.
